This blog post echoes what is said in the book MindSet ( http://mindsetonline.com/ ). Never praise children because they accomplished a task. Always praise the effort done to do so.

Agreed. The use of ML is highly dependent on the data. Having a something like the Prediction api is fine, but seems like the use-cases would be rigid.

Dive Into Python would be perfect for the OP's requirements. I touches on many aspects of python with code samples and is done in a concise way.

I was thinking the same thing. The catalog of algorithms at the end of the book is indispensable. This site does seem to cover a much broader range of algorithms though.
