I was thinking the same thing. Often both squares will be close to each other, so I'm sure that a generic compression (eg zstd) can even reduce it even further by taking advantage of that proximity.

Not OP. They probably invest in more than one fund, and want to keep the ratio balanced. Eg: 60% MSCI World, 20% Emerging Markets, 10% Tbonds and 10% Gold. Every few months they would check the ratio and “rebalance”

My armchair answer to that question is that Google isn’t a product company. They might have had similar or better technical AI capabilities, but they aren’t great at productizing it.

Why would they keep them? That’s holding on to currency risk for a potential price increase. The government isn’t used to or wants to hold that kind of assets.
