I think you are right lost_marbles. The difference between a PhD with an excellent pedigree and a rubber-stamped PhD should be their publication records. The problem would still exist if these rubber-stamped PhDs weren't there, I think

I think I'm one of the "them"--now that I know about it, it seems like a pretty important thing to know. I can't help but wonder, how many other gems like this out there that the "them" don't know about?
