Etesync is awesome. Totally worth the buck. Does one (or two things) and does them well. Support is superb. Perfect for backing up and syncing contacts for those that don't want to give the data to Google etc.

To keep clients from DDoSing the server. Probably they set a % of requests to resolve to localhost and work with less load. It's a pretty good kill switch.
