A good trick is to listen to the water boiling. At around 180°F the water starts bubbling and dancing, gets a bit agitated and might make a resonant sound in your kettle. I suggest using a thermometer and getting to know how the water sound

Hey, That's an important point, thank you. I definitely have had the experience of wondering, "Is this something LaTeX provides, or is it from Memoir?" I guess I should also have been asking myself what comes from LaTeX and what is already
