   True. And even with public transit, activities like taking kids to soccer practice / music school requires carrying some equipment along. Not really convenient lugging duffelbags if there is more than one kid.

   I assume a change of scenery and being left to your own thoughts without distractions is a factor. anecdote Driving into the countryside helps me string together plans better than sitting in a room and blankly staring at a screen.

   I just realized that I do that. It's just some misplaced pity from having worked in customer service where performance was tied into customer ratings.
