I'm really surprised I didn't see any mention of LwDITA yet. It can be expressed in XML, HTML, or Markdown. For us it is the sweet spot between the too little provided by Markdown, and the too much provided by DITA or DocBook

By default RocksDB uses a ByteWiseComparator to sort the keys in the SST. However, RocksDB allows you to provide any comparator you wish. So ultimately it will depend on the performance of the comparator that you implement.

I think one of the interesting points missed here, is that if you can convert to XML then you can use the large selection of mature tooling around XML to query, transform, and process your data.
