Agreed, but they have gotten a lot more flimsy even in the last 15ish years. In the area I live there are stores that sell old denim and the price is the same as buying new, but the quality is noticeably higher.

Apple is adopting the Universal profile. If GSMA wants to add E2EE to that profile then they should. I believe that there was some talk of Apple working with GSMA to add or improve encryption on that profile. AFAIK rcs is licensed out to OE
