There aren't many people with the expertise to produce the vaccine, and they're all already working on the existing production lines. The lead times are just inherently long here; takes months to start up a production line.

I would like it quite a lot if it worked properly, but there are some pretty brutal bugs. I have some amount of faith that they'll be fixed, though.

Wouldn't you need, in addition to patching the interrupt vector, to make sure there is no existing code running in the kernel when you restore the sensitive registers? This makes the nginx use case seem kind of unrealistic.

The most pleasant thing about this is how the lisp machine's instruction set turned out to be a good bytecode for interpretation. Calling it "microcode" seems risible today, but I don't know if it was as ridiculous in 19

You don't have to care about memory safety, but if you don't you probably shouldn't speak for "systems programmers" as a whole. Systems need to be safe.

I am betraying my ignorance with this question, but: On the last page, the authors claim that SQL queries are commonly constructed by concatenating strings. Was this still, in fact, common in 2017? If it was, that's very scary.

The only reason I was able to learn any math in college is because you don't need a computer to do it, so you can avoid the distractions. A browser, the source of all the distractions, seems like a really bad place to learn math.
