OCE is starting to. There is the OCE Smart Start fund and it is fairly simple process to apply for the grant. There is not too much of an ecosystem of support, but the money is nice. http://www.oce-ontario.org/programs/

In our app users can sign in with Facebook, or make their own app specific account. We don't force users to use facebook. A lot of our good (active) users are ones who make a custom account. Another benefit for us offering an option is

I use a netgear readynas nv+. It's their consumer model, but it does the job for me. It's not the fastest, but has good features and support from the community. You can even easily upgrade the memory ( voids the warranty I believe). Only is

For iOS devices we use airplay and airserver on the computer side. Unfortunately this doesn't show touches, so you need to be creative and implement it part of your app.
