My only gripe with Garmin is having to throw away a perfectly decent watch just because a button stopped working after the warranty period. But IPX5 is definitely a show stopper for my kind of usage

The "trick" that worked for me so far is to ask the person in the next table nicely if I can leave it by their side for a moment. Statistically they're more likely to be honest rather than a thief of opportunity
