I remember when everyone was ordering Mac Minis. "How many mac minis you got" down at the local pub. Funny times.

Apple has been stingy with RAM in consumer hardware. RAM prices will continue escalating, some analysts say into 2030, and this will make it more difficult to build next generation phones with sufficient memory for meaningful ML workloads.

Scripts and packages moving from steamos- to holo-. "holo" is the internal name for the base OS layer. Pulling the product brand out of the plumbing is what you do when the plumbing is going to run somewhere the brand doesn't

Yes? Read about their water rights lobbying and lobbying against plastic recycling regulations. Our descendents have to deal with Coca Cola’s externalities. You can’t see these second order effects immediately, which is understandable, but

I think there’s two separate things here that you seem to be conflating - absurdly rich and unethical. I’d argue Newell is mostly the former; though many or most billionaires align on both those metrics.

Perhaps I’m close to the end of my lifecyles. Meditative bliss feels more intense than sense pleasures for me, sense pleasures feel dull in comparison regardless of my sensitivity.

Everything has a lifecycle, including juggernauts like Google. Looks like the end user hasn't been the focus for a while.

Interesting post sharing the author's experiences. Personally I've experienced deeper bliss from meditation than from any sense pleasure, but it is not always reliably accessible in every sit.

What I can see from this release is that SteamOS is being converted from device firmware into a general-purpose distribution that happens to boot into a game launcher. Quite a bit of a version jump in the dependencies as well.

I like the 30 year mortgage analogy, something people can connect with. 2% increase in mortgage rate likely means low 6 figures difference in total interest paid.

I suspect it's not just this, there's plenty of 'optimization' around rubberbanding usage limits as well as routing to a different model in the backend. The incentives are too strong.

I find intensive marketing/PR efforts are often inversely correlated with the claims being made - whether it's products or geopolitics. Israel certainly engages in very intense marketing on certain fronts, but truth cannot be obsc

How do you know that if you cut off your head "you're gone forever"? Death is an event horizon we can't see past, yet the experience of it in the first person is likely one of the most remarkable in this life.
