Maybe they tried but the founders rejected. The founders created another company that was acquired by Apple and worked there for a few years. Probably not a fun place to work for ambitious engineers who want to build AI products.

My approach was to simply delete the Facebook app. I can still use facebook.com in my mobile browser once a week if I want and I don't get any push notifications.

Which course did you buy? The iOS development courses from Stanford are free on iTunes U and are probably the best out there. I did the one for iOS 7 and I learned all the fundamentals and more.

This is what I'm afraid of, missing out on potential productivity. There may be a difference between people who stop drinking coffee regularly versus people who never started, but I agree that there is a good balance that can be attain
