Nobody maintains X. Volunteers fix it, companies add drivers. Freedesktop is defrauding their donors, by claiming to "maintain and extend X" and failing to do so. Other people will pick up the slack once the weirdos at Freedesktop

If you're not brain damaged from vi use, there is really no problem with the default settings for emacs. Copy-paste using different keys? Well, that's Mac and Windows brain damage, emacs was there first with yank and kill.
