China is especially not the west. They would typically be the East. Mostly I meant developed vs undeveloped. Those are Eastern countries who are still developing. I think the dichotomy fits just fine still.

Regulation doesn't mean authoritarianism. Is the WTO authoritarianism? Is a speed limit authoritarianism? NO. Those are just regulations, because as systems get more complex you need more rules to manage the scale.

It should be clear at this point the www is a not what it was. Honestly the ads could still be 3rd party, but they would just be stored on the same web server as the site. Then the 3rd party would just collect the info from the site instead
