I agree on your first point - it's like building a social network and having no users (chicken and the egg problem). There's a lot in it for the company / hiring manager, I think I've answered this question in the FAQs o

I think you're right. It all comes down to the person involved. There's no silver bullet but I do think it makes sense to give people more choice.

Because the sites that have set up the paywall will report the extension and get it taken down, happened to an extension that I made a while back that had a similar idea.
