The only reason for tilt-rotors is when you need to keep the main body of the aircraft level. The only problem with tail-sitters is the pilot (and possibly the payload).

Well, in some places it's not a great idea to use your computer in an electrical storm if it's connected to a mains outlet. Sounds like you were lucky.
