We've tested across quite a few--and it should control for constant, weird lighting. But there are definitely edge cases that are hard to control for--a faint, pulsing red light would probably be the worst one.

I actually ended up using Kobold2D for the final app since it uses automatic reference counting. It works pretty well, but in my experience with tilemaps, somethings can be broken and require workarounds.
