This is a great project. He had some help from Dad with the power tools, but it seems that he wrote the software completely by himself.

I have no idea why Arduino is so popular--it has NO debugging support unless you use an ICE. (People "debug" with printf statements.) We use Netduinos because with .NET we can single step and inspect variables in live code.

Are you seriously comparing Eclipse to Visual Studio? I use both of them. Eclipse for CUDA programming, Visual Studio for everything else. There's no comparison. Eclipse is a buggy heap of crud. Visual Studio just works.

Eating fewer calories than your body needs every day will always lead to weight loss. Certainly it's easier if you rearrange your diet, but that's a secondary point.

Windows hasn't changed? He need to look at Windows 10! We love it here, and we all used to run Macs and OS X. We develop for Linux, in a virtualbox.
