it's not because of hardware acceleration at all. It's actively preventing the window to be captured (I believe iTunes does some similar). It uses a private API and an example is here: https://github.com/heardrwt/RHAdditions/blob/master/RH

what do the AT&T vans connect to? I assume that there is no landline available for them to hook into, so how are they providing service? my guess is satellites or communicating with other cell towers but the latter seems counterproducti

I was able to find a FURNISHED bedroom from $1450/mth in the heart of the Mission. Prices has gone up but it seems like people have gotten worse at finding places or switched to using airbnb more (which is way more expensive).

The case you cited does not match what you claim. The round time from SFO to Mark Hopkins San Francisco hotel (where the couple was travelling) is at least 40 minutes and the cab driver was driving from SFO, not to it.
