But VP9 decoder is supported by almost every SoC now (Phones, tablets, TV, Set-top boxes, etc). And TV/STB SoC vendors like Amlogic, Broadcom or Realtek already announced products with AV1 support.

The first Portal devices as well as this Portal TV are using an OS based on Android AOSP. So porting Fire TV or Android TV apps will be much more easy for developers who want to offer their content on the Portal TV.
