To add to this: I run a 32' 4k screen as my sole, external monitor. My M1 air runs it like a champ. I dislike the limit of 1 external monitor, but it does perform well regardless.

I also would vote for FreeTaxUSA, they have served me well. I do however note the irony of them being named FreeTaxUSA and in the same breath, mentioning that it costs to file. Especially given the context of the thread in general.

I certainly couldn't ever seriously consider early stage startups, as my spouse is unfortunately heavily dependent on my healthcare. It'd be cool if that was no longer a blocker.

My company offered an (off-cycle) 5% raise in July. In August I signed an offer for a ~30% jump. Not FAANG, also not some thought-leading 10x engineer. If your company isn't offering you a 20-30% raise, someone else probably will.

I also picked up the cheapest spec M1 Air for my personal machine, with a view to upgrading when the new Pro's came out. I absolutely have no need to upgrade, I have never even got it to run remotely sluggish. Very impressive for $999.

It is not - you get access to healthcare at all times (employed or otherwise, young or old) and simply pay a slightly higher tax rate when you are working to pay for it.
