The latest iOS release made this more difficult to do via Safari. I use skipvids.com audio (aud button) mode. It works most of the time in Safari on iOS. You can also watch in PiP (Picture-in-picture) mode.

I am glad someone is writing about this youtube on Chrome desktop regularly consumes over 1 gig of ram. Even running it on FF with uBlock doesn't seem to help much. When I use 3rd party yt sites like skipvids.com I rarely go above 300
