  Airdog and many of the other "follow me" drone projects are based on the open source autopilot, Ardupilot [1], that 3DR heavily supports development of. The first really successful crowd funded drone, pocket drone [2], is going to start shipping soon as well. I'm hopeful the others like AirDog and HEXO+ [3] can pull it off as well. Hardware is pretty hard especially when it flies ;-) If you are into this stuff and in the Bay Area sign up for the Meetup my Partner and I run [4].
