It actually looks really nice; and I'd consider myself their target demographic conceptually. My last iPhone was a Pro for context.
But at a $2K starting price, plus likely another $200 for the storage size they really expect people to purchase, in this economy, it is so far outside of my price range it is dead to me.
Which is to say: Cool tech, but I've already dismissed it as something I want evaluate for my next phone just based on price alone.
That's maybe the real death-nail for folding phones: Price hasn't yet shifted to allow them to be mass market rather than enthusiast phones.
- user43928 8d agoIn my location I can order the Z Fold 8 for cheaper than the 18 Pro Max, and I can see in the price history that it has also been available for cheaper than the regular 18 Pro. If I wouldn't at the moment focus on developing iOS apps, the Z Fold 8 would be very tempting.
- groundzeros2015 7d agoThat’s why these comparisons are silly. Ok sure there is a cool Samsung phone. Are you going to switch ecosystems for it? Probably not.

Photos/videos get backed up elsewhere. The only thing that eats storage like that is downloading a lot of offline movies, or taking lots of videos. But this doesn’t have the same camera chops as the iPhone pro.
