- bitpush 15d agoWhy do these creators use YouTube then? Why cant they host it on s3 and the have you directly compensate? Surely the creator is getting some value from YouTube and YT expects to be compensated for that?

I'd imagine Google would start charging for videos that don't make enough money or heavily deprioritize them from discovery. That seems like a problem they could solve if they wanted to.
- odo1242 14d agoThey don’t do this for the same reason GitHub isn’t getting rid of free repositories- it would create an opening for someone else
