This El Niño is going to be interesting come Christmas time. Lot's of weather and climate unpredictability coming to a region near you!

I hope so! The area I live in has been experiencing drought and everyone seems to be predicting a wet period coming from this. Personally, I don't put much faith in weather predictions that are more than a week away.

  El nino predictions are pretty spot on. They won't be able to tell you "There will be a storm on the 30th" but they will be able to tell you that you should expect flash floods next year. Unfortunately for where I'm at, the prediction due to el nino is more drought, which sucks because we are already desperately dry. Hopefully the following la nina year will bring us some moisture.

    Predicting El Niño vs. La Niña vs. neutral: relatively reliable. Predicting how strong the El Niño will be: harder. Predicting exactly what it will do to rainfall, temperatures, storms, or snowfall: substantially less reliable.

      And yet people will put forth dire predictions (drought, flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, heat waves, etc.) every chance they get. No wonder so many people think it is all a hoax.

        Yes, scientists have put forth dire predictions of extreme weather. Here's the thhing though - we actually see measurable increases in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events. They put forth dire predictions.. and they are absolutely correct. It's right there in the observational record.

Incidentally, the term El Niño came from Christmas time (the waters warm around Christmas time, or when the baby boy comes).

According to a client scientist on a news program, 2027 will be the hottest year on record. Expect lots more chaos and death of wildlife in the ocean as we are seeing in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, sharks migrating to places where they don't normally and surprising humans, gray whales are washing up on the shores at larger and larger rates, jellyfish to have a lot more food so there will be a lot more jellyfish, invasive beetle species will have a lot more food, algae blooms will be a lot more prevalent so the ocean will become more toxic.
