I have always wondered how the Ukrainian FPV drone operators cope - some of footage is pretty gruesome - esp when the drone chases some hapless Russian running away before zeroing in and then blowing him up.
Some even shows double tap mortar rounds being dropped on Russians and then gravely wounded they drop another one to finish them off.
- polotics 1mo agoThe operators know they are in danger themselves, most notably from gliding bombs on their bunkers, so it's a clear him-or-me, makes things simpler. Also: Bucha. ps. do you to watch all these videos? how is it affecting you?
- inference-god 1mo agoThat and probably most of the time, they don't really see much of the aftermath, I've definitely seen cases where they've had to "double tap" someone but I'm guessing there is much less of that now with better drones, training, AI targeting etc".
- polotics 1mo agoNot quite. I would advise refraining from exposing yourself to such horrors. It's a bit of an overton window thing really. For reference: Amateurs talk about tactics, professionals talk about logistics. Talking about "double tap" is same level as talking about "lethality"...
- tibbydudeza 1mo agoI am not watching the cartel or ISIS ones - they are staged and frankly rather disturbing to me. I saw one with an aftermath of a HIMARS strike with anti-personal warheads (ball bearings) on a Russian drone training camp in a forest, the heaps of bodies did not bother me at all - was more wondering about the trees and how above a certain height there were no branches or leaves. On a visceral level I understand the why of the killing from the Ukrainian side - it is morally just.
- Sabinus 1mo agoA firm belief that one is doing the right thing is incredibly protective of mental health in war. Ukrainian drone pilots have few doubts about what future they're working towards and what one they're preventing when they kill Russian soldiers. US soldiers coming home from Iraq 2 (or Vietnam) don't have anywhere near that ideological buffer.
