- peterashford 2mo agoSo, larger batteries, then. Or produce hydrogen from excess wind power in the summer as a chemical battery.
- cozzyd 2mo agoyes, people (some of whom I know) have looked at this of course: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364032123011322?via%3Dihub https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S136403212... but it's somewhat risky, since if the power goes out in winter, to first order, everyone dies. I think you'd always keep the generator on at low load, just in case. Note that wind turbines at pole have not historically been very successful, maybe that will improve.
- blitzar 2mo agoI presume the optimal solution is solid oxide fuel cells + renewables. Not complete science fiction, but not quite ready to do away with the diesel backup.
