Generally speaking, classifying a house as "McMansion" feels like a form of gatekeeping. If the person who lives there enjoys it, who are we to judge?

- MarkusQ 3mo agoSee, the "your" in there is what we call a possessive pronoun. It indicates that something (in this case, my porch) is owned by someone (in this case, me). That makes what you are proposing doing a property rights issue, not cultural criticism. Shit on your own porch all you want.

- MarkusQ 3mo agoAgain, that's public (shared), not yours. Not sure how (or why) you've gone from "we shouldn't be judging other people's taste" to "I get to defecate wherever I want."

- ImPostingOnHN 3mo agoIt depends what you mean by "it". We were discussing how people style their own property, which, yes, is largely a matter of taste. For some reason, you keep trying to shift the discussion to vandalizing someone else's property, which you don't own. In that case, no, property ownership is generally not a subject of taste. Do you really think it is, asdff?

- ImPostingOnHN 3mo agoI have neighbors that let invasive, aggressive weeds take over their lawns, to the point where they try to make it to mine, and I will spend the rest of my days either beating them back or succumbing to them. That's life when you're HOA-free, though. Sought that out. They can do what they want with their property, more power to them. Maybe they like it, maybe it's water smart, maybe they just don't feel like weeding. At least they're nice people :)

- spamizbad 3mo agoThere's actually a housing shortage in the US so it's not like this is an architecture that is responsive to consumer or cultural preference and demand - local zoning laws do not even permit such freedom.
