The latter actually were citizens, most/many of them for more than one generation while the illegals in the US have recently entered. Also, US illegals are simply deported, not killed. Also, acquiring real estate for any org to for any activity is also normal. E.g a town government who buys a warehouse to house a temporary school or hospital. Bloomberg is just trying to insinuate analogies here because their political party didn't win.
