Show HN: Cactoide – Federated RSVP Platform
- macintux 10mo agoHow do you plan on handling the influx of garbage? I like the idea, but I’m inclined to think registration of event organizers would be necessary to control the spam.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoYea something like that would be necessary in the long run, or just use the event creation cookie user to moderate the rsvps. (or you can create private events)
- nrhrjrjrjtntbt 10mo agoHow does federated social already handle spam? just use that. I guess specific servers can ban.
- _f9cu 10mo agoWhat does federated mean
- doppelgunner 10mo agoYour tool looks great. You could showcase it on NextGen Tools, a Product Hunt alternative: https://nxgntools.com https://nxgntools.com
- andy_ppp 10mo agoVery cool, is it possible to add voting for multiple dates too?
- orbanlevi 10mo agoRight now nope, but I'm planning to add new features.
- thedangler 10mo agoAPI, Please make an API? I could integrate my RSVP system into it which requires more specific features but could use this to create the base for the event.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoYou need an API for creating events?
- thedangler 10mo agoYes, I would piggyback on to the base event which would be created, which would allow me to build out my extra features which need a base event. API's are always a good thing, weather they are private or not.
- macintux 10mo agoNot the person who asked for it, but I think they were suggesting they'd use the API to retrieve information about RSVPs/current state of a planned event. (Perhaps even RSVP on someone else's behalf.)
- righthand 10mo agoThis is cool looking but you should note in the front page that it has ical, et al. calendar features.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoThanks for the feedback.
- mrtesthah 10mo agoHow does it compare to Mobilizon?
- orbanlevi 10mo agoIt's similar, but not that good as Mobilizon, Im focusing on simplicity with an improved UI and experience. I'm assuming easier to spin up a new instance on your own, but this is my personal opinion.
- rapnie 10mo agoDo you have plans for adding ActivityPub support in the future? That would be very cool, and having interop with these other FOSS projects will help give things network effects.
- james-bcn 10mo agoMobilizon looks interesting but their docs results in a 404, which doesn't inspire confidence.
- verdverm 10mo agoSmoke Signal has a similar system on ATProto (no affiliation) I believe this is the project that has the Rust code (on the GitHub of ATProto) @smokesignal.events/acudo at main · tangled https://share.google/HG59BdzeJpib7fw5x https://share.google/HG59BdzeJpib7fw5x
- orbanlevi 10mo agoOhh nice! I'll look into it.
- dbjacobs 10mo agoAny plans to add the ability to have waiver/release forms for an event that need to be signed?
- orbanlevi 10mo agoI didn’t think of that.
- roshannarma 10mo agoThis is super cool, going to try using this for an event this week and self-host a server if it works nicely, have been looking for a privacy-first version of Partiful for a while.
- james-bcn 10mo agoNeeds the ability to have a waitlist.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoNoted.
- atulvi 10mo agoThere are several offensively titled events. No moderation whatsoever. This is likely 100% vibe coded in a day.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoOfc, don’t have to moderate every randomly submitted event, but I am planning to add a moderation page to delete or filter offensive events.
- rpearce9 10mo agoI quite like this, have just spun up a quick self hosted instance to play with. I'm wondering though - after creating an event, how does one see the list of who has RSVPd to attend? I can't seem to find any way to see this info.
- orbanlevi 10mo agoIn the detailed page of the event, there is the rsvp list.
- matteohorvath 10mo agodo you plan to put selling tickets into it?
- hacb 10mo agoAny plan for supporting different timezones?
- zestyping 10mo agoPlease, consider a better name. It's really hard to promote something with a name that no one can pronounce or spell.
