As for the rest, "excuse me if I'm wrong" is a very common and valid phrase, though a bit ruined by sarcastic misuse I attempted to show with it that I don't assume anything or default to hostility, though on a different occasion you'd yourself probably argue that others feelings are not my responsibility.
