Fastly launches free developer accounts
- aspir 2y ago200GB and 2 Million monthly requests; Unlimited L3/4 DDoS mitigation; WebSockets and Push Notifications; K/V store
- dave4420 2y agoLooks like the interesting stuff is only on a 30 day free trial. If you want to use it for a hobby site beyond that, you need to pay US$50+/month.
- pluto_modadic 2y agolast time I checked, functions were part of the "minimum $50/month" thing. This doesn't look like a free tier, it's a trial period.
- anildash 2y agoIt’s a free tier for CDN, Storage, Observability, and lots more stuff. Definitely want to hear what you’re looking for on the computing side, we’ll be iterating.
- neverokay 2y agoIf you mostly generate static content, is the way to go to abuse free tier cdns?
- rurban 2y agoFor static content github pages are unbeatable
- simonw 2y agoIMO this addresses what has been Cloudflare's biggest competitive advantage for years - Fastly was out of budget for hobbyists meaning it was much harder for developers to kick the wheels on it.
- dave4420 2y agoFastly is still out of budget for hobbyists who want to run their logic at the edge. For comparison, Cloudflare Workers starts at $5/month. It would be nice if Fastly could make the stuff that’s only free for 30 days available at a similar price point — jumping straight to $50/month is bit much.
- lazka 2y agoWhat happens if you go over the 200GB or 2 Million monthly requests limits?
- indigodaddy 2y agoCan we just put Cloudflare in front? :) joking but half serious actually..
- indigodaddy 2y agoHere’s a Glitch community article about how to use Glitch apps with fastly.. could be a fun parent/child learning project. Glitch is pretty cool.. https://support.glitch.com/t/give-your-glitch-site-a-performance-boost-with-fastly-and-use-your-own-domain/67386 https://support.glitch.com/t/give-your-glitch-site-a-perform...
