Every auto manufacturer plans to do this. The regulatory environment dictates it. Thank you, governments of the world. Now if only Tesla didn’t sell pollution credits to the highest bidder, their cars would actually have a net positive environmental impact.

    Not at all. Tesla could keep them off the market, which is consistent with their mission statement.

    Some more than others. If pollution credits are sold, buying a Tesla just allows someone else to buy a pas guzzler. If Tesla kept them off the market, buying a Tesla actually reduces air pollution.

      Or using money from carbon credits to develop their EVs so far ahead that legacy auto has no chance to be competitive...

      Lmaooo those poor manufactures have their EV programs stalled by tesla :(( Resale is EXACTLY the purpose of carbon/emission credits

With their other losses they'll need some impressive financing to get anything new off the ground. Good luck securing that in 2024. Even if they get it, they're gonna take another bath if they try to target sub-$25K with a crossover. That's ICE territory; hybrids and all-electric crossovers are already $10-15K more.

  What are you even talking about? They have plent of cash and no debt. They are also not losing money. They have plenty of money to invest. And they have been working on the project for a while now.

Well, if Tesla announces it for mid-2025, they may start producing it in real numbers by 2030, but most probably never. At this point, their timelines and announcements are a complete joke. And I'm not even talking about the faked FSD video from 2016 - for which Dan O'Dowd posted here a quite ironic comment: https://twitter.com/RealDanODowd/status/1749933238985110000#m https://twitter.com/RealDanODowd/status/1749933238985110000#... How is the Tesla Semi ramp going (released >1 ago, still absolutely no leaks about it specs) ? Cybertruck (released ~2 months ago, with a supposedly 2 million reservations, but people that were estimated 100k in the queue already got some) ? Tesla Dojo Cluster (which was supposed to be top 5 'in the entire World') by now ? I hate to be the pessimist, but at this point, it's very clear that they are intentionally lying.

  people that were estimated 100k in the queue already got some This is a big one. I know a lot of people that cancelled their CT reservations. I see more Rivians in SoCal than CyberTrucks...and I drive past SpaceX on my way to work.

    Rivians have been out for far longer. Of course there are more. People underestimate how hard it is to scale a new platform. Look at GMs Ultium for example. Cybertruck is a new ground up platform. Their own engines and battery cells.

    SHOCKING that you would be seeing more Rivians which they’ve been making 17k a quarter of, than CT with its current what 50 trucks a week haha They’re only delivering CA and TX it seems so they’re skipping numbers obviously

      It's pretty shocking that I would see more SpaceX and Tesla employees driving Rivians than CTs, given that you would expect people who work for Musk to be at the top of the list for new cars. It says a lot that people with the most up-close experience to the CT have voted with their wallets and gone with Rivian instead.
