9% of gross revenues to be able to use hardware accelerated 3D and fast memory access?
The fast memory access has been available since Flash 10 days and usable with HaXe.
I'm stunned by how short sighted this strategy is from Adobe.
- barrettcolin 14y agoI see this new note on the Adobe Alchemy labs page: "Domain memory (used by Alchemy) and Stage3D hardware acceleration – when used in combination – will be part of a premium tier of capabilities for gaming in Flash Player, enabling a new generation of immersive online games." So it's "when used in combination" (with Stage3D from my read of it). Here's the page: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/alchemy/ http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/alchemy/
- jamesu 14y agoThe latest Flash uses signing to permit access to these fast memory opcodes, see http://asvguy.com/2012/03/why-will-premium-flash-player-features-kill-flash.html http://asvguy.com/2012/03/why-will-premium-flash-player-feat...
- Haplo 14y agoAre you sure this is the case? From the Adobe article it seems that after a certain date they will disable hardware rendering for flash games that use both domainMemory and stage3D. In that case it appears to be that you would only need to sign the swf in case you use/need both of these features. If you do use them both without the signed license it will display a watermark on the debug player and disable hardware (switch to software) rendering on the normal player (an only after a certain date).
- Maxious 14y agoWe're going to be annihilated compared to HTML5 but we're going to use our IP to squeeze every last cent of you on the way out? ;)
- nixle 14y agoMore like: we need more money to compete with in this billion dollar market where we are generating suprisingly little revenue.
