Ask HN: What would you work on over a summer?
I want to create a tech startup (currently a CS major), but have no ideas.
- throwawaysalome 3y agoI'd work a job first. Life is plenty long enough to build a company in your 30s or 40s so long as you avoid getting yourself killed.
- fml_stillgood 3y agoHow to apply learnings in a job to a company later?
- giantg2 3y agoUnderstanding first-hand the workings of business operations, needs of customers, regulatory issues, and other nuances.
- mikecoles 3y agoHave a job. Find aspects that can be made easier or more efficient with your IT/CS skills.
- dieselgate 3y agoWhat problems do you face as an individual? It seems like having no ideas is at least one problem you have - what about a way to expose people to new ideas or curate ideas that people have and want to give away. I’d say get out and experience life and enjoy being in college/young and maybe get exposure to problems other people are facing too along the way Edit: typos/words
- TechBro8615 3y agoTrust me, you don't want to get stuck running a business during school. Build cool stuff during the summer but don't worry about making a sustainable business yet.
- ggwp99 3y agoI think you want to do a project that MIGHT turn to a tech startup in the future. If you have no ideas, ask yourself, what could I use right now and build it for you. Do you need a way to plan activities with friends remotely? This could be an idea. Build it for yourself and your friends and then try and share it with others to see if they would want to use it, if you have atleast one person that would want to use it, then you are on to something.
