Ask HN: Does anybody prefer using their laptop with no monitors?
I kind of prefer it, but I get the sense that nobody agrees with me. Not that it matters, but I'm curious if there are any others like me out there.
- phernandez 4y agoI do. I do development all day and it’s not a problem for me. I just run every window maximized under os x with multiple desktops. Easy to close the lid and open it wherever without having to worry about those windows on all the other screens.
- chiefalchemist 4y agoPrefer it? Nope. A second (and sometimes third) screen increases my productivity. In fact, I recently pitched up a small portable 15" screen for when I'm away from my desk. It's only HD but for $100 to $150 it was worth it.
- version_five 4y agoI agree with you. Can't really specify why, but I've always preferred just using the laptop, even when there is an external screen available

- moomoo11 4y agoYes. Window management sucks, when I reconnect to my monitors half the time the positions are messed up.
- john_the_writer 4y agoRails and Elixir dev here. I spend 90% of my day in my VSCode. Write test and run them in the IDE. I love the MacBook screen and don't find I need more than one monitor. I do use external keyboard and mouse, so I can raise my screen, but the resolution on MacBook is so awesome.
- swah 4y agoSingle external screen works fine for me. Even the laptop as a second screen sometimes makes my head move too much.
- enonevets 4y agoDefinitely prefer single high quality monitor and laptop only when on the go or traveling.
