You joke, but PFOS doesn't start to decompose until it's north of 400°C https://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/acs.iecr.1c01504/suppl_file/ie1c01504_si_001.pdf https://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/acs.iecr.1c01504/supp... At ppt concentrations in seawater, it doesn't seem worth it. PFOS remediation is for contaminated soil or industrial wastewater.

There was a concern that the hydrogen bomb would do that. Probably just a scare story.

  It was briefly considered, then numbers run, and promptly determined that it wouldn't be possible (IIRC did to x-ray losses).
