Amazon seems to be efficient. Maybe they should open a port.
- wrycoder 5y agoYeah, Bezos could just buy Houston?
- lotsofpulp 5y agoMight be wiser to buy something on the west coast if efficiency is the goal.
- wrycoder 5y agoYeah, it’s weird. I was watching a YouTube that showed how Amazon was building their own extra long containers and bringing them up the river in Houston on specially constructed container ships with integrated cranes for unloading/loading.
- bpodgursky 5y agoAnyone who could open a port free of longshoreman unions (aka able to automate) would be a step function above what we have. That's not easy to swing politically though.
- LeChuck 5y agoEh. I've worked at a massively automated container terminal free from unions (not in the US). It's not any faster than your US terminals. Less people, sure, but not any faster. I think you massively overestimate the gains automation would bring you.
- koheripbal 5y agoThis is an apples to oranges comparison. He said union-free, not automated.
- t3rabytes 5y ago> (aka able to automate) It's right there.
