That is very evidently not the same. They're decrypting data from all communications. I'm not coming out and calling you a shill, but you seem to defend Facebook in all of your Facebook related comments. I'm curious why you seem to think facebook deserves to exist in it's current dystopian form. That you would defend them for decrypting literally all private and unrelated-to-facebook data of unaware and vulnerable teenagers strains my credulity.

They're making a decision based on a disadvantage they have compared to the monopoly Apple continues to hold with the app store. Apple also collects usage statistics and uses it for the same purposes, it just doesn't have to make any hard decisions on how to collect that data, because it's their cloud, their app store, and their operating system. They have a complete view of the entire ecosystem, putting all of their competitors at a serious disadvantage, and keeping them firmly entrenched.

    S/He's really making FB look bad. I'm guessing they're an employee. Not sure if it's better or worse if they're some kind of social media PR person or just a dev/tech who has drunk the Koolaid...

  You're the first person I've ever read stating that Facebook has a "disadvantage" at anything. Am I supposed to feel bad for the world's second largest online advertising company, which pulled in $40 billion in 2017?
