Yep, I've seen affiliate traffic go for stupid prices, were they could not possibly be making money on it. I've seen websites set up, just for the purpose of earning money of affiliates.

They're called TGPs (thumbnail gallery posts, although most of them include video now), and they have been around forever. They're the primary type of affiliate site.
