Yeah, open to suggestions! The point is to use the keyboard for everything so mobile is tricky. Also, all the code is on GitHub (https://github.com/tmm/notational https://github.com/tmm/notational).

  You could add a + button on the left of the "search or create" field. No risk of accidentally touching the search icon that way.

If on android there is a useful keyboard app called "Hacker's Keyboard". Useful for programming on the go. Edit: comes with ctrl among 0ther keys that is.
