It's more than a gimmick. A recognizable and memorable URL has proven to be extremely beneficial to new startups. Memorable .com addresses are becoming endangered, or very very expensive.

I can personally attest to becoming very confused by having the add "hq" to basecamp's address. It took me a very long while to get accustomed to that URL, having to repeatedly google basecamp to find it.

I wish they would have mapped the images to a 3D rendition of the chapel. It's not overly complex that it couldn't be done. It would fix the distortion issues present when you're not staring at the artwork at 100% zoom.

Normally I would thank you for linking to a cache of an unavailable article, but this text-only cache is useless without the graph images they reference. Anyone see what numbers they're talking about in the image?
