I like Firefox with options - better yet Firefox + noscript. If your website needs with js, flash and need to load js plugins from 10 other ad domains to see, that's fine. I don't want to see it anyway. I love to have choices.

https is not that secure, most of the root ca are owned by big corp/gov. It is trivial for any big gov to decode your https traffic.

If you turn on wifi tether mode, you are broadcasting your unique Mac address. Not sure if you have just BT headset running, can they sniff an unique address from the air way.
