I am running pfSense on a Supermicro X9SCL 1U pulling <40W, with an old SSD as the bootdisk. gig nics & everything else. Sure you can half the power draw again with an embedded device, but diminishing marginal gain.

I must say, the single feature that made me switch to macOS (or that made me comfortable with the switch) was the built-in emacs keybindings. I mapped Caps Lock to Control and can finally stick with sane killing & yanking text, as well
