FWIW I never worked at Google and I used protobuf / gRPC extensively at work and in nearly all of my side projects. Personally, I think overall it's great. I do wish trailers were an optional feature though.

A git branch is a text file containing a single sha1 value and a newline. Pretty sure the author can't tell me the named sequence of commits given that information.

Actually there's way more to it than loading /usr/share/dict/words into a perl hashtable and calling it done. A good spellchecker from scratch is still a massive engineering effort in 2023.
