What we really need is a graph over time of each metric by area. Wish this was easily available by API.

Exactly this is why I don’t understand the folks who think inflation is a purely monetary phenomenon. With demand shocks like this how can we not have deflation?

I would guess goog doesn’t suffer that much. They have beyondcorp, and all meetings often have folks video chatting in anyway. Granted even a small reduction for a giant workforce is a lot of $ in absolute sense.

It’s way, way more complicated than that. There are the LPs, who sometimes have clients / constituents, GPs, who can be complex entities or individuals or both, operating partners, banks, who obviously wouldn’t lend for LBOs if every o

The web of incentives behind LBOs is very complex. They happen because in reality a lot of the time many of the people involved make money. This is availability bias. You only hear about the explosions. You don't hear about the thousan

Thank you. Keybase had investors and I’m sure the premium Zoom offered was unbeatable. Zoom can effectively pay infinity with equity. Those investors knew that this was the best way they’d ever have to realize gains. That’s why they investe

No one is out there to help me (other than family). Everyone is trying to advance their own interests and wealth. Once I learned that this was true above all else, I started pushing my own life forward as opposed to waiting to be pushed.

You need to think about the motivations behind all of the parties you’re interacting with. Why did those investors give you money? Because they, and possible their LPs (their bosses effectively) wanted to make more money with their money. T

If someone gets $100 of value per seat, and you charge $15, why is that great? Are you leaving money on the table or facing competition? And shouldn’t you react strategically to either situation?

No. The bank should maximize shareholder value and not do that, which is what is happening. But we should let anyone write a check and invest in a startup, or buy certain products considered unsavory by the masses.

Indeed. It’s like rubber gloves during this pandemic. People think once they’re on they’re protected - you only gain increased protection if you know what you’re doing.

Not to bring too much of a traditional business view to HN, but measuring margin is arguably more important than measuring revenue.

This has nothing to do with protecting customers. People should be allowed to do, almost, whatever dumb things they want with their money. This is about protecting the bank's balance sheet.

I’m not saying the internships need to be for free, but personally I think it’s reasonable to expect college students to have spent some time interning, paid, in the field they would like a full time job in during the summer

People need internship experience to get fulltime jobs. Cancelling internships is a terrible move for the future workforce.

There really is a cost to paying people in stock. That's why SBC is on the income statement. Additionally, analysts will often not add SBC back to cash flows.
