I've developed direct positive paper with caffenol in order to get a nice sepia tone. In my experience, caffenol smells terrible . If you do decide to experiment with it (and you should) I would recommend getting the absolute cheapest

I managed to control my serious ant problem by feeding them. I would set up plates of sugar or sugary food outside, away from the house. Over time I got fewer and fewer scouts coming in to the house to snoop around.

Instead of trying to keep them out, consider giving them an alternative. I put small piles of sugar outside of my house in the hopes that they won't need to go exploring for food. So far it has greatly reduced (but not eliminated) mass
