Exactly. Windows 10 is a much better operating system than Linux for a broad range of applications, and the desktop. I develop on Windows 10, and am quite happy using a VM (not WSL) for my Centos development.

Intel cares deeply about backwards compatibility in hardware and it's worked well for them. And of course, Microsoft is currently the most valuable company.

I run Windows 10 as my primary operating system. We do Erlang, and C++/CUDA programming here. Are there ads? I've never seen anything other than a very occasional promotional tile for a Microsoft product. Apple cross-promotes, too

Exactly! With Windows you do have choices. I bought a desktop PC from ThinkMate configured exactly as I wanted it with a plain vanilla Windows 10.
